SERGEANT MICHAEL L. MURRAY NAMED LOUISIANA ENFORCEMENT AGENT OF THE YEAR

     The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division recently name Sergeant Michael L. “Mike” Murray as not only the Region 2 Agent of the Year, but also the Statewide Agent of the Year. His name has also been submitted by the Department to the Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agents as a candidate for the SEAFWA officer of the year.  Sgt. Murray, a 19-year veteran began his career in 1983. After graduating from the Louisiana State Police training academy, he was assigned to East Carroll Parish in Northeast Louisiana. He later transferred to Union Parish and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1995.

     Throughout his career in conservation law enforcement, Sgt. Murray has gone above and beyond the call of duty in his efforts to apprehend violators and gain the confidence and respect of the Department and fellow agents, as well as the public. He is also always readily available to assist other law enforcement agencies and maintains one of the highest caseloads in his Region.

     When dealing with the public, Sgt. Murray always maintains a professional attitude and treats each contact the same. He is active in assisting with the hunter safety program as well as talking with hunting clubs, sportsmen’s meetings and civic groups. His efforts in conversation law enforcement often leads to changing working hours to handle complaints. He specializes in the apprehension of night hunters, waterfowl cases and turkey baiting cases.

      When Sgt. Murray is not working, he spends time at his West Monroe home with his wife Arely, and their three children. He is also an avid hunter and fisherman.

      Throughout his career, Sgt. Murray has demonstrated his leadership abilities by taking charge of problems that may arise and trying to find solutions. His knowledge of conservation laws back up his leadership abilities as he constantly demonstrates excellence and professionalism in his duties.
