THREE DEAD FOLLOWING  BOAT ACCIDENT ON OUACHITA RIVER

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division agents, Ouachita Parish Sheriffs Deputies and Emergency Medical Services responded to a boating accident after a 911 call reported a late night collision on August 16 in Ouachita Parish. Three people were killed and a fourth person was seriously injured in the Saturday night crash of two vessels on the Ouachita River near the mouth of Bayou D'Arbonne. According to LDWF Enforcement Captain Alan Bankston, the crash occurred around 10:00 p.m. and involved a 55-foot houseboat and an 18-foot runabout in a near head-on collision.

The Ouachita Parish Coroner pronounced two occupants of the runabout, Scott R. Thompson, 25, of Monroe and Kerry D. Griggs, 38, of West Monroe, dead at the scene. A third victim, Tina M. Hill, 25, of West Monroe was missing from the vessel and agents immediately began searching for her in the river. On August 18, Hill's body was recovered from the river near where they believe the accident occurred. The fourth victim, Ryan W. Hudson, 21, of Monroe was transported from the scene with serious leg injuries. Hudson was admitted to St. Francis Medical Center's intensive care unit. Hudson remains in the hospital.

According to Captain Bankston, all of the injured parties were in the 18-foot runabout. The two people aboard the houseboat were not injured.  LDWF investigators believe that both vessels were underway at the time of the crash. The cause of the wreck is still under investigation as agents continue to examine evidence, interview witnesses and await the results of chemical testing for alcohol and other substances. No arrests have been made at this time.
