When most of us think about the various management areas around the state, we usually equate these to great hunting opportunities. This is no different for Sherburne W.M.A., one of the "finer hunting" public hunting areas of the state. But, there is more to this management area than just hunting. Besides the vast areas of hardwood bottomland, Sherburne also has a vast area of crawfish ponds known as the "South Farm". Employees, their spouses, and their children discovered what else Sherburne W.M.A. had to offer. They spent the day with their families enjoying Louisiana's great outdoors catching crawfish out of Sherburne's South Farm. With the recent increase in temperatures, also came the increase in crawfish numbers at the farm. The employees and their families enjoyed the day catching the crawfish as well as the "boil" that came later. These activities show the hidden "treasures" of Louisiana's wildlife management areas.
