President's Message

Hello Friends,

Welcome to the summer issue of The Louisiana Game Warden magazine.  We chose the profession of a Wildlife Enforcement Agent because of our love for the job.  When we were hired, we knew that we would not become rich from our pay.  Our riches are found in many ways throughout the performance of our duties.  Protecting our wildlife and natural resources, helping to save lives through the enforcement of boating safety laws and educating the public with boating and hunter safety classes are only a few of the rewards we receive from our job.  However, with this said, our income is a necessary part of life.  We are fortunate in that our Headquarters staff realizes this and are constantly struggling to keep our pay comparable to other agencies.  Our recent pay increase is an example of this.  I felt compelled to send a note of  “thanks” to those who made this raise possible.  On behalf of all Enforcement Agents, the following letter was sent to Secretary Jenkins.

Secretary James H. Jenkins, Jr.

La. Dept. of Wildlife & Fisheries

P.O. Box 98000

Baton Rouge, LA

As President of the Louisiana Wildlife Agents Association and on behalf of all Enforcement Agents, I would like to thank you for our recent pay raise.  It will have a positive effect on every Agent and their family.

Since becoming Secretary, your leadership has without a doubt brought the Enforcement Division to an unprecedented level of professionalism and has given us a much appreciated voice within the Department.   The salary increase that you have given us is not only appreciated by the youngest cadet, but also by Colonel Vidrine and his staff who constantly struggle to keep our salaries competitive with other law enforcement agencies.

Sincerely,

Lt. Alan Bankston, President

Louisiana Wildlife Agents Association
