REGION 10 UPDATE By Sgt. Jubal Marceaux, Region 10 Representative With spring now upon us, Region 10 will be actively involved with the T-shirt program scheduled to kick off on Memorial Day weekend. At the time of writing this article, Region 10 has obtained twenty-four new sponsors who donated a total of $2,900. Sr. Agent Layne Picard, who is with the Refuge Enforcement Patrol, alone picked up $2,200 that was donated from seventeen sponsors. Region 10 will again give their charitable donation to Toys-to-Recovery, a non-profit charitable organization which delivers toys to children in hospitals throughout south-central Louisiana. Mrs. Barbara Gary of Breaux Bridge is the founder of the program, partnered with the First Lady of Louisiana, Mrs. Alice Foster. Each time a distribution of toys is scheduled, Mrs. Gary notifies sponsors to assist her at hospitals. Every event receives notable news media including newspapers and television. Region 10 is scheduled to present their monetary donation to Mrs. Gary on February 21, 2001 at the Abbeville General Hospital. Representing Region 10 will be Sgt. Jubal Marceaux, Sr. Agents Ivan Vaughn, Jr., Layne Picard, Cliff Comeaux, and Sgt. John Lopez. These agents, along with Mrs. Gary, will visit the children and give out toys. The agents will also use this opportunity to give out T-shirts and promote L.D.W.F. boating safety by encouraging the use of life jackets. In April, at a date to be determined later, there will be a walk-a-thon for Toys-to-Recovery in Abbeville. I plan to participate in this walk-a-thon as a part of my earlier pledge to be involved on a larger scale in this worthy cause. I brought this information back to the Region 10 agents and they also feel that they want to further participate. As a result, several Region 10 agents, along with their wives and children plan to participate in the walk-a-thon for Toys-to-Recovery scheduled in Abbeville. We can all hope that this fundraiser will be a success. With spring around the corner, all of the agents of Region 10 are looking forward to the warmer temperatures, new wildlife, and hopefully, a productive season.
