Teamwork

By  Sr. Agent Patrick Staggs

Region 1

During the week of February 3 - 9, 2003, LA Dept of Wildlife & Fisheries Enforcement Agents from Regions 1 & 3 received the opportunity to embark on an unusual mission. Agents from these regions were involved in a two parish search for the debris associated with Space Shuttle Columbia.

Wildlife Agents were teamed with members of the FBI, NASA, State Police, and LA Army National Guard. There were a total of six teams, each led by a team leader from the LA Dept of Wildlife & Fisheries to serve as a guide in the areas to be searched. Teams searched areas that consisted of some of the thickest terrain imaginable in weather conditions that included sleet, snow & rain.

The search gave the agencies involved the opportunity to become familiar with each other. The overall consensus from most persons involved was that many good working relationships & friendships were formed. The search resulted in many finds that were deemed important by the FBI & NASA officials.

As a team leader, I would like to thank all the agents from the Enforcement Division as well as all other agencies involved.
