Cruisin' For Deer
By Agent Justin Lee

On January 4, 2004, Sgt. Lane Kincaid and Agt. Cal Gunter were notified by dispatch about an illegally taken deer. The subject in question was driving a silver Toyota pickup truck heading west on Hwy 151. Before long, word got around and other local law enforcement was on the prowl. About thirty minutes later Deputy Mike Lewis and Trooper David Bryant stopped the vehicle on Hwy 151.

When Sgt. Kincaid and Agt. Gunter arrived at the scene the investigation was already underway by Agt. Justin Lee. As Sgt. Kincaid interviewed the subject about the situation, Agt. Gunter interviewed the complainant about what had happened. The complainant stated that the subject had run dogs across his land and jumped a small buck. The buck stopped in the middle of the highway. The subject stopped his vehicle and fired two shots at the deer. The deer ran off the road and traveled into the woods approximately 150 yards. The complainant stated that he watched the subject drag the buck out of the woods and place the buck in the back of his truck. The subject stated that he did indeed shoot the deer from the road. The subject was also hunting with an unplugged shotgun. The subject cited and released. The deer was donated to a needy family in the area.
