I GOT WHAT I CAME FOR By Sgt. Lane Kincaid
The first week of May Sgt. Duane Taylor and I, Sgt. Lane Kincaid were patrolling Caney Lake in Jackson Parish. We were conducting boating safety checks as well as looking for over the limit and slot fish violations. We had checked several boats and we hadn’t seen a bass all day. Then we ran into a Mr. Emery Dupree from Houma La. We checked Mr. Dupree for his required safety equipment and license. Mr. Dupree passed with honors. Then we asked if he had any fish aboard the boat. He smiled and said yes. Well there was no need to measure this fish to see if it fell inside the 15 to 19 inch slot, it was well over that. The poor fish couldn’t even get comfortable in the livewell. The bass weighed just over 9 lbs. We talked several minutes about how he went about catching this fish and about the events that had unfolded. We even talked about catching shrimp and redfish. I then made the comment about how far he had traveled to go bass fishing. He replied “It didn’t matter, I GOT WHAT I CAME FOR!”
