West Carroll Man Cited for Gamefish Violations

A West Carroll Parish man was cited on March 13, 2003 for taking over the limit of Crappie. Shane A. Sims, age 29, of Epps, was cited after Sgt. Rick Owens received a complaint that fishermen were taking over the limit of fish on Poverty Point Reservoir, located north of Delhi in Richland Parish. Sgt. Owens made contact with Sims and discovered 62 Crappie in his possession. The daily creel limit on Crappie is 50. The fish were seized and donated to charity. Poverty Point Reservoir is the state’s newest lake and is scheduled to open to the public at a future date.

The penalty for taking over the limit of gamefish is a class 2 violation, which is punishable by a fine from $100-$350 and/or jail for not more than 60 days.
