Jim Matkin Memorial Scholarship
2007

Sr. Agent Jim Matkin lost his life on March 2, 2005 in a one vehicle accident while en route to meet agents in Catahoula Parish for a work assignment.  He was assigned to the Statewide Strikeforce Team.  Jim was a former football player for McNeese State University in Lake Charles, where he assisted the team in winning three conference championships.  Not only did he leave his mark on the football field, Jim also excelled academically.  While earning his Bachelor's degree in wildlife management with a minor in biology, Jim maintained a 4.0 grade point average.  Therefore, in memory of his academic achievements and his love for the outdoors, the Louisiana Wildlife Agents Association is proud to call its scholarship program, the "Jim Matkin Memorial Scholarship."

The Louisiana Wildlife Agents Association will be awarding a one-time scholarship to the graduating high school son or daughter of a Louisiana Wildlife Agent.  Applicants who meet the basic academic requirements and show a desire to further their education will be eligible for the award.  Grandchildren of current agents who meet the requirements may also apply. The scholarship will provide $500 to the applicant chosen by the LWAA Board.

The LWAA Board is looking for students who are successful academically, participate in extracurricular activities including service to their school and community, and have a desire to continue their education after graduation.

Applicants must have earned at least a 2.5 overall grade point average during their high school years.  Applicants, please attach a copy of your official high school transcript to your completed application and mail to the Louisiana Wildlife Agents Association Board at the address below before April 1, 2007.  Applications may also be given to region representatives.
