SGT. STRAIN RECEIVES AWARD By Captain Wayne Brescher
Each year for the past 16 years the Florida Parishes Skeet and Gun Association in Amite, Louisiana, has honored the Wildlife Agents and their spouses in Region 7 with an Annual Conservation Awards Banquet. Also included in this event is a Hunter Safety Program sponsored by the Gun Club and conducted by Wildlife Agents from Region 7. The Gun Club receives three nominations from the Region and they chose whom among the three will receive the Dr. J.H. McClendon, Sr. Trophy. The Conservation Trophy is awarded by Dr. J.H. McClendon, Jr., to honor his late father. Dr. McClendon, Sr. was not only an outstanding civic leader, but he also valued natural resources and promoted conservation. The trophy is a living memorial to perpetuate his ideals of planned conservation for posterity. The Banquet draws 250-300 people who wish to spend an evening supporting the work and efforts of these Wildlife Agents. Also in attendance are many State and Parish elected officials. This year’s Recipient of the Dr. J.H. McClendon, Sr. Conservation Trophy was Sgt. Chuck Strain of St. Tammany Parish. Sgt. Strain has done an outstanding job and is well deserving of this prestigious award. Congratulations Chuck.
