Team Work Pays Off

By Agent LeAnn Phipps

On July 6, 2003, I received a telephone call from Cameron Parish Sheriff ‘s Deputy D. A Dupuie. Deputy Dupuie had told me that Deputy Daniel Peshoff was on the telephone with a complainant, receiving information about a subject that had just shot an alligator at the Twin Oaks Mobile Home Park in Grand Chenier. He advised me they would be headed that way, and would detain the subject until we arrived. At this time I called Sergeant Jr. Vaughn and advised him on all the details. Minutes later both Sergeant Vaughn and myself were in route to the scene. Keeping in close contact with each other and the two deputies we both made it to the location quickly.

When we arrived at the scene the two deputies informed us of the situation, introduced us to the subject and then allowed us to conduct our investigation. Sergeant Vaughn advised the subject of his Miranda Rights and the subject not only admitted to shooting an 8 foot alligator but started to ramble on about how many other alligators he had shot in the past and gotten away with.

The subject was charged with taking alligators without a license, taking alligators out of season and charged the appropriate civil restitution. The alligator and a 20-gauge shot gun were seized.

Once again teamwork paid off. I would like to personally thank Deputy Dupuie and Deputy Peshoff not only for their quick response and professionalism but for being a part of the “TEAM” and giving us the opportunity to not only work along side them but with them as well.
