Fishing
Frenzy on Little River and Flagon Creek
By

The annual draw down of Catahoula
Lake leaves low water levels in Little River and Flagon Creek, which
creates a fishing frenzy. Every year this annual event brings in
fishermen from all over
central Louisiana. With the abundant population of fish limited to
such a small area, it is almost like fishing in a stocked swimming
pool and this usually leads to those attempting to take over the
legal limit.
July, 2003 was a very hot and humid month, but it didn’t stop the
fishermen from coming out for the draw down. They came and the
fishing was also extremely hot. We checked a lot of limits of black
bass and crappie. We were even fortunate to catch a few who
attempted to come out with over the limit. One Grant resident was
nabbed with 18 black bass, eight over the limit of ten. Two
residents of Rapides Parish attempted to slip through with 29 black
bass and 14 black bass. A LaSalle Parish resident decided that using
wire nets would yield a larger catch, but he didn’t know he would be
the big catch. The LaSalle man was caught with 176 undersized
catfish, eight crappie, and three bream. He said that he had a lot
of family and friends to feed. Agents who participated in the cases
were Sgt. Marcus Constance and Sr. Agent Kevin Hill.
